Breaking Barriers: Empowering Girls in Kisumu
In Kisumu County, adolescent girls face overlapping challenges โ gender-based violence, teenage pregnancy, HIV risk, and limited opportunities. The She Thrives Program addresses these barriers head-on through mentorship, life skills, and community engagement. We don't just talk about change; we create it.
What We Do
Our holistic model combines mentorship circles, sexual and reproductive health education, and leadership development. We work in schools and community hubs, training peer mentors and facilitating dialogues that challenge harmful norms. Girls learn to advocate for themselves and their peers, building a generation of confident leaders.
"Before She Thrives, I was afraid to speak in class. Now I lead our school's girls' club and I've mentored 20 younger girls. I know my voice matters."
Key Achievements
The Impact
When girls are supported, entire communities transform. Our participants report increased self-confidence, better academic performance, and a stronger sense of agency. We've seen a 40% reduction in reported GBV incidents among participants, and girls are now taking leadership roles in their schools and villages.
